Oracle Card Love
I’m writing this blog at this time, because I’ve been feeling really out of sorts. Almost like I’m looking at myself living the day to day.. But not really living in my body, in my mind, in my heart. Really out of flow with myself and to be honest I’ve been a little lost. It’s been kind of unsettling. So I’ve come back to a practice that I would do weekly, and certainly at the beginning of each month. But for some reason my practice has fallen away a little. I’m back.. And I’m seeking guidance, connection and goodness for my body & soul.
Where to Start with Oracle Cards
This is one of my favourite practices. And when I’m feeling a bit all over the place or I’m starting something new, sometimes at the beginning of a new month, or when I’d like some guidance on how to show up this month. I go to my oracle deck.
A couple of things with oracle cards. There are so many available for you to choose from, modern, ancient, animals, moons, simple, in depth. I mean so many. I’ll list a couple of my favourite ones below. But just choose a deck that you vibe with. If you like the concept or the pictures, or the meaning, or the author or the designer. You know what you like.
When I get my oracle deck home. I spend some time with it. I’ll have a look at each card, I usually have a flick through the book (if there is one). And happily get aquatinted with the deck. I have been known to sleep with my new tarot decks. I don’t know why. I just feel like something happens when I sleep and dream, we connect.
Alright, so you’re going to do a read for yourself. If I have the time. I will set up my space. I grab what ever crystals I’m working with, or a Clear Quartz or Amethyst. Sit comfortably, take a couple of breaths in & out and call myself to myself. Just centering myself. This alone is just a nice practice. Even for 5-10 minutes. This is a gift to yourself.
Back to the cards: I’ll light some incense/palo santo and I’ll wave the cards through the smoke. Usually when I do this I ask the cards for guidance, honesty and love. I’ll shuffle the deck, all the while asking the cards what I’m seeking from this card reading. Is it a message about something thats troubling me, or an answer to a question I have. General guidance, or something the cards want to tell me.
Choosing cards: Hahaha usually cards will fall out of the deck for me. For you it could be that you cut the deck and choose that way. You may want to lay all the cards out once you’re shuffled them and glide your hand over to choose what card/s wants to be picked up. It may be that you just pause through shuffling and pull cards. You might pick the top, bottom & a card from the middle. Whatever works for you.
You can choose however many cards you’d like. There are specific ‘spreads’ you can do, three card for example, where card 1 is past, card 2 is now, card 3 is future. Three cards can also represent head, body, heart. There are loads of card pulls, check out more online by googling ‘oracle card spreads’. There are some fabulous ones to do around New Moon and Full Moon times.
FYI: This isn’t fortune telling, This isn’t going to tell you what the winning lottery numbers are. This is beautiful guidance from Goddess, God, Universe, Spirit, Stars, Angels, Guides. Whatever you’re connected to.
Once I’ve chosen a card or cards, I will look at the card/s, what can I see before I open the book for the meaning. What is the card describing to me? I’ll make mental notes about how I’m feeling looking at the cards, what is coming up in my body. Then I will have a read of the meaning. From here, there could be a journal prompt, or an activity for you to complete (depending on your oracle deck). I mean, take from this what you like, what works for you, what speaks to you.
I sit with the answers/messages I’ve received and just absorb them for a moment or two. And I interpret what comes up for me. I inhale/exhale a few times and let it wash over me.
You may find inspiration immediately, you might hit action stations straight away. You may feel a sense of confirmation, that the messages are a Hell Yes that’s what I needed today. Do what works for you. This is Your practice. You may want to just take the time to process, digest the words & feelings. I find on my morning walk the day after I’ve completed a reading, I will get clarity or words will come to me.. and I’ll be like.. hmmm that’s the answer.. that’s what the cards have stirred up for me.
Other ways I carry these messages with me:
I’ll often take a photo of the card and words that spoke to me through the card reading and make it into a screen saver for my phone. That way each time I unlock my phone, I see the card. Sometimes I’ll write my monthly intention on the photo, that way I’m anchored into what I’m focusing on this month.
You can keep the card on your bed side table, or your altAr. Again a sacred reminder of the messages, focuses for the month.
If I’m holding circle, I will take the specific cards with me, and create my own little alter and sacred set up. Again I’m bringing the messages with me. And bringing them into such sacred space, allows them to be witnessed by those in cirlce. really connecting me to the messages & guidance.
If a mantra or affirmation has come from the card: I will use this during meditation, and as my ‘san kalpa’ in yoga,
Because I’m a crystal lover, I’m inspired to take the messages from my reading and put it into crystal form. taking key words from the reading, I choose crystals that support and embody those words. These become my anchors for the month or time I’m working with those cards.
Perhaps that can be my next blog: How to put your card readings/intentions into your crystals for further anchoring & support.. Remind me..
