Is it Manifesting or Luck?

Do you think when you get what you want that it’s pure luck or is it something bigger working for you?

Have you wanted something so bad for yourself that you think about it, you dream about it, maybe you write it down on some bucket list somewhere?

This story starts just over a year ago, with a beautiful sister & I learning that we both love Gala Darling (if you don’t know who Gala is, look her up). We decided to participate in Gala’s Radical Radiance Program. It was pretty cool, and I learnt so much, the one thing I really took from the work is a Morning Practice.

I have many rituals, as may or may not know. I love working with the new moon for intention setting, I love working with my own lunar cycle, meditation, oracle cards and other practices. I’m okay with a daily practice, sometimes I fall off the rails a little. But this specific morning ritual was different for me. There was a huge amount of accountability attached, as I wasn;t just showing up for myself, I was showing up for my good friend. Each morning my friend & I would voice memo each other. That’s right, speak out loud into our phones and send to each other every morning, no editing, no re-do: just press send. It was 3 set questions each morning: we would both share what we were grateful for, star our intentions for the day & talk about our dream life.

I love my gratitude practice, it’s daily, sometimes a meditation, and often a ritual I bring to my sacred circles. But let’s leave that for another blog post, and sharing our intentions for the day: let me know if you want me to blog about that too!

The big magic for me in my morning practice, was the Dream Life part.

It was detailed & the more detailed, the better. Right down to how I wanted to spend my days, who I spent them with, what was I actually doing, serving & sometimes I included the actions I needed to take to get there.

I would describe how it felt to do the work I desired, who I would meet, how my day & week looked, how I would travel with my work, how I would be able to blend both of my loves together, customer service & being in service to women. The descriptions would grow more detailed, like I saw myself driving up the east coast, supporting women in their small business, plus working for a brand I hold dear to my heart, and who actually cares about the planet. I talked about how I would have regular catchup's with my boss, get to travel to Melbourne for conferences & never with an inch of doubt, never with a question, that this couldn’t happen.. Every day my sister & I shared, showing up for each other & ourselves.

About 4 months in, gaining massive clarity from the morning practice. I thought “I can’t keep talking about this: I’m going to do something about it”. I had to be brave, I had to put myself massively out there. I did the research, I made the call, I shared my proposal. I spoke to the person I needed to & she loved what I proposed & asked me to be patient.

And I was. Every day I still did my morning practice: details becoming even more more vivid. I didn't approach anyone else for work.. I just knew I was going to do this role and for a brand I adored. About three works after that ‘be patient’ call: I was offered the role.

This shit is pinch my skin worthy: I actually created a role in a business that I fricking love. It allows me to blend two parts of who I am together. Serving women in their business, aligning myself with a beautiful Aussie brand, travelling & supporting, and then the other part of my week is showing up for women in a sacred way: circles, coaching, connection & crystals.

This shit is pinch my skin worthy

You know when I told people about this: most people were blown away by the outcome, super happy for me, praised me for being Bold enough to ask for it, proud of the choices that I’d made. And a small few: were like “you’re so lucky”, “you always get what you want, you make it look easy”, “good things always happen to you, not like me”..

Do you want to know what I said to them? Fuck that, do you know how hard I’ve worked to get here? Working with myself to get clarity, identifying all the things that this role would be, how I could bring both aspects of my passions together, talking about it everyday, visualising it.. actually talking to myself about it (sometimes out loud.. I promise I’m not crazy) then having the courage to ask… “Yeh I’m just lucky, shit like this just falls into my lap” Yeh… fricking Nah not that simple.

Almost a year on, and I’m working in both roles: It’s glorious and magical and every day I get up & love what I do. This is a little lesson in: be careful what you wish/ask for..

because it could just result in you getting everything you desire.. are you ready for that amazingness?

I shared this story with a woman who has just recently come into my life.. and I tell you what I called women like this into my life (another manifesting tip)… and she is amazing! We connected instantly and although she’s in another country, I’m proud to call us soul sisters! Michelle is one hell of a woman, We're part of a secret society: The Startup Squad, a squad of 5 women who each week get together online and share our goals, wins & just share our biz knowledge. It’s a huge support and loads of fun. In the last 5 weeks we’ve all managed to gain clarity in someway & launched something in our businesses.. Pretty powerful stuff. I can’t wait to introduce you to the Squad Leader in an upcoming Blog.

When I asked Michelle about her take on manifesting & any tips she has for you, here is what my soul sister had to say:

Whether it was manifesting my dream job or having Oprah’s all time favourite guest in the front seat of my car (yes, that really happened!), there’s one thing I’ve learnt from my experience of creating the life of my dreams - you have to meet the Universe half way.

Dreaming of an outcome is only part of the story.

While it’s incredibly important to have a crystal clear vision in your mind, it’s also important to take action towards your heart’s desire.

After the initial rush of inspiration for a dream, there’s a period of moving towards your desire that requires faith, trust and intentional action. That’s where the magic happens. Just dreaming, putting your intention out there and then sitting around waiting for it to happen isn’t likely to bring your goals to life, you have to move towards that which you want and then allow the universe to meet you half way.

Let me explain...

In 2018 I had a desire to meet someone I admired. I found out they were coming to New Zealand for a book signing and excitedly set the intention that I would take them out for coffee. I started by emailing them with a request to meet me for coffee. It took me hours to write it as I wanted it get it just right. When I finally sent it off I waited, and waited to but got no response.

Feeling disappointed and frustrated by the setback but still having time before the big day, I shared my dream and where I had gotten to with close friends who were always supportive of my big, crazy dreams and asked for their advice. One friend mentioned that they were probably so busy that my initial email had probably gotten lost in amongst the multitude of requests they get a day and that I should try again closer to the special day. That conversation helped me put things into perspective and gave me the courage to give it another shot.

Determined to make my dream come true I spent hours the night before the book signing writing and re-writing a follow up e-mail, trying to find the right words while keeping it succinct. I ended up giving up and going to bed, pretty much talking myself out of sending it! Thankfully another close friend who used to keep me accountable for taking action towards my goals (and vice versa) checked in on me, and having discovered I hadn’t sent it stayed on the phone with me until I did. To my delight, the new email got a response. And while I wasn’t able to take them out for coffee I would get the opportunity to have 5 mins of their time at the signing - yipppee!!! I was so excited I could barely contain it.

On the morning of the book signing I decided to park at the ridiculously expensive parking building close to the store it was being held in, which is highly unusual for me as I really dislike paying for parking, but something was telling me I should park there, so I did. To cut a long story short, I had my dream come true moment of a five minute chat with my inspiration which was amazing but...it didn’t stop there.

As I was leaving and walking towards the parking building, I spotted the author and her colleague and jokingly asked if they would like a lift to the next stop on the signing tour, which I was also going to. To my surprise they said YES! I couldn’t believe it! I tried to remain as calm as possible but inside I was bursting with excitement. A few minutes later there I am, driving in my car with not one but two incredibly inspiring humans as passengers for a whole 30 minutes, AND would you believe it, they even offered to pay for my parking. I could not wipe the grim off my face and still smile from ear to ear thinking about it :)

Now, you might say how lucky was I that I just happened to be walking to the car at the same time they were looking for an Uber. But...

I truly believe that everything that I did leading up to that moment led me to that opportunity

AND created an outcome even more incredible that I could have dreamed up!

That’s when I know that the Universe is working in my favour, when opportunities like that present themselves after you’ve put in the background work. They always make me smile as they often show up slightly different to how I imagined but almost certainly ten times more awesome than I imagined!

This experience taught me some important things about manifesting that I’d love to share with you:

  1. Be crystal clear on your vision but let go of the outcome. When we stay open to possibilities and keep showing up for our dreams, life will often surprise us in the most wonderful of ways.

  2. You MUST take action towards your dreams, even if you’re not 100% sure you’ll get it ‘right’.

  3. It’s normal to feel resistance when something is important to you, it doesn’t necessarily mean you’re on the wrong track. More often that not it simply means there’s another layer of growth between you and your dreams, which leads me to...

  4. It’s okay to ask for help. Talking through your desires and setbacks can often lead to new openings for action. (Sometimes we need someone else to help us get past the resistance that’s in our own head)!

Keep these in mind the next time you’re working on manifesting a dream and hopefully you’ll be smiling at how wonderfully the Universe has a way of meeting you half way!
