Grounding + Welcome

If you’ve seen my Instagram stories, then you know how much I like to video my feet walking on the sand, or waves splashing around them. I’ve had people say to me, “stop taking video of your feet, we want to see YOU”. I guess what this act means for me, is that I’ve arrived. I’m here.

The first thing I do when I take my shoes off & plant both feet firmly on the ground, is to take a big breathe in & out. I’ll close my eyes and just for a moment be grateful that I’m there.

It’s nothing big, or profound. It’s just something that works for me. And it doesn’t have to be at the beach, give me a park, a sports oval, a yoga studio, rock formations in a national park, my bedroom floor when I’ve just taken my shoes off from a walk, gosh it could be a patch of grass down the end of my street.

What I’m trying to share is that tapping into grounding energy can be found anywhere. This is just one practice I have that allows me to drop into where I am, breathe and pause

Finding a place to ground yourself can be wherever you need it to be.

My crystal-powered way of grounding is to have them with me when I meditate, holding them in the palms of my hands or if I’m laying down to meditate, popping the crystals at my feet. I add them to my space: work area or bedroom, or sometimes I’ll create a crystal grid.

My meditation could be saying a mantra over & over. Something like  “I am grounded ” or “ I am grounded and safe”. Whether lying down or sitting up, just ensure the crystals are touching your feet. You might imagine little roots growing from your feet or your sit bones if you’re sitting up, and they’re growing down into the earth, gathering divine grounding energy. You sit or lay with this image and repeating the mantra in your minds eye for 5-10minutes. Alternatively my go to place for guided mediations is InsightTimer. It’s an app, it’s free, and there are some great meditations to choose from.

If I’m really finding it hard to come back to earth, or I’m feeling scattered with lots on my mind, I’ll sleep with the above crystals at the base of my bed. Although they’re not touching my feet, before I pop them at the end of my bed I hold them & whisper to them & ask them to keep me grounded and safe.

I’m a big lover of Essential Oils and have created my own blend for grounding. This is perfect to rub on the soles of my feet at bedtime, a powerful combo of crystals & oils, while I sleep. Imagine woody oils, like Sandalwood & Cedarwood, blended with loving florals of Geranium & Ylang Ylang. If you have any of these at home diffuse or add to some coconut oil for a grounding foot massage before bed

Again if I’m struggling to fall asleep due to thoughts chasing each other around my head, I visualise the crystals on the floor, and the oil on my feet and connect them together with the mantra in my minds eye. Repeating over & over until I’m asleep.

I asked my good friend, Ayurveda + Yoga Goddess, Claire Sparks from Earthlight Wellbeing,

how she gets herself grounded. Here’s what she shared, along with her loving, grounding Chai recipe:

“I’ve always found walking barefoot on the grass to be deeply settling and nurturing, long before I even knew why. Now that I understand the benefits of Earthing, as it’s called, it’s even more of a regular practice for me, especially in the spring and summer months. The sensation of feeling the cool earth beneath me takes my awareness immediately to my feet and connects me to being on this earth at the present moment like nothing else.

In recent years, I’ve built into my lifestyle the time to take daily walks in nature, whatever the weather! An absolute favourite for me is to walk through the woods and breathe in the pure pranic energy (life-force) of the trees. It settles, connects and uplifts me in equal measure. For me, there is no amount of mind chatter that can’t be quietened with a nature walk, especially if I’m walking and sharing with a soul sister.

My favourite practice for autumn and winter is to make myself a warm cup of chai with what I think is the ultimate spice blend. It’s taken lots of trial and error to get the perfect blend and it’s this recipe I love to share with others. There's something about the ritual of taking my time to make the Chai, gently stirring the milk as it warms and fills my house with the fragrance of its spicy loveliness, before pouring it into my favourite mug and sitting down with a hug-in-a-mug. It’s that first sip and “Ahhh” moment as my shoulders drop and I feel grounded and settled in myself.

These are a few of my favourites and I hope you find them helpful to your practice. Whatever your preference, any grounding practice that works for you is an act of loving, compassion and self care. To find a place of quiet and connection in your inner and outer worlds is a truly wonderful thing.”
